Referee Development Program
Our Association's policy is to recruit and develop local referees through all stages of the qualification requirements Basketball Queensland sets out in it's referee pathway.
The first stage is the Beginner's Referee Course:
The Beginner Referee Course teaches the basics of refereeing the game – fouls, violations, administration, and mechanics (where to run on the court.) After completing this level, beginner referees start by being accompanied on the court by a more experienced referee to help them get used to the practical side of the game. Participants must be 12 years of age or over.
The second stage is the Development Grade Referee Course:
Once beginner referees have gained experience and have moved up to the stage where they are competently refereeing local junior basketball games on their own (without the need to shadow or be mentored by a more experienced referee), the Development Grade Referee Course provides more in-depth instruction. The course is broad and touches upon all the major elements involved in refereeing at association levels of competition.
The third stage is the Intermediate Grade Referee Course:
After gaining experience as a Development Grade referee, this course introduces referees to the skills needed to competently officiate higher-age junior domestic basketball, senior domestic basketball, and the higher ages of junior representative.
The fourth stage is the Advanced Grade Referee Course:
This course builds on the knowledge acquired in the Development and Intermediate Grade Courses, and prepares referees for officiating higher-age junior representative basketball and higher level senior domestic games. Junior referees should be aged at least 15 before attending this course and must already be competent at refereeing all junior domestic age groups.

Scoretable Officials
'Scoretable' is a sub-committee of BQTOG (Basketball Queensland Technical Officials Group), who works with Basketball Queensland to educate and develop scoretable officials throughout the state.
Level 1 is the minimum requirement for scoretable officials. A level 1 Scoretable Course is for beginners and is a great place to start.
Level 2 is for scoretable officials who wish to gain increased knowledge of all aspects of basketball scoring.
Level 3 enables you to scoretable for national competitions such as SEABL, WNBL and the NBL. Level 3 courses are by invitation only.
